Fostering the Future invites the UNMC community to participate in its annual blanket making project.
Faculty, staff and students can help make tie blankets for youth in foster care at an in-person event or pick up materials to make them at home with family and friends.
- The in-person blanket-making event will be Friday, Nov. 17, from noon to 5 p.m. at the UNMC College of Nursing commons, located on the second floor. Food and drinks will be provided.
- For the take-home option, blanket kits can be picked up in Williams Science Hall in the cubicle space outside of 2.0106. When inside on the second floor, use the south double doors. Take an immediate right down the hall and then an immediate left. Pickup will start on Friday, Nov. 17, and run through Friday, Dec. 1. Blanket kits are available for pickup/drop-off from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (no weekends/holidays). All materials must be returned by Friday, Dec. 1.
Donations will go to Project Everlast, Project Harmony, Partnership 4 Kids and the Omaha Police Department.
Participants are urged to sign up only for the number of blankets they anticipate being able to complete.
Fostering the Future is a student-led, interprofessional service-learning initiative dedicated to promoting resources and solutions to address the health challenges at-risk youth face in the Omaha metropolitan area.
