Incoming UNMC students from every college, campus and program will be welcomed to campus with a variety of orientation activities highlighting campus resources, mental health supports and opportunities to make the most of their time at UNMC.
While UNMC colleges and programs organize their own orientation events for the fall, New Student Orientation through the UNMC Division of Student Success focuses on resources and skills that will support all UNMC students.
The month of August will feature several activities:
Tours of the Center for Healthy Living: Wednesday, Aug. 16, 8 a.m.-9 a.m.
Staff at the center will provide guided tours of the facility and highlight activities such as intramural sports and fitness classes. Any member of the med center community also is welcome.
New Student Orientation: Wednesday, Aug. 16, 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Facilitated by the office of academic success, new student orientation takes place simultaneously for all incoming UNMC students. Presentations include a welcome video from campus leaders, an overview of resources available to students both at their campus location and online and opportunities for students to connect with their peers.
Student Involvement Fair: Wednesday, Aug. 16, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
UNMC is home to more than 100 registered student organizations that provide an array of opportunities across its five campuses in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Norfolk and Scottsbluff.
Following orientation, students can connect with student organization members and leadership and sign up for organizations and activities at the Truhlsen Event Center. Lunch will be provided.
Tours of the McGoogan Health Sciences Library: Wednesday, Aug. 16, noon-3 p.m.
Staff from the library will be available Wednesday afternoon to give tours to incoming students.
Interprofessional Education Orientation Event: Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1-4 p.m.
Students will attend a panel of current health professions to learn about the importance of interprofessional teamwork and communication, and they will participate in a series of exercises that illustrate challenges to successful cooperation among team members in modern health care.
#WeAreUNMC BBQ: Aug. 23, 3:30-6 p.m.
UNMC faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the all-campus BBQ at the Ruth & Bill Scott Student Plaza. Attendees with a UNMC ID badge can enjoy free food and giveaways, music and yard games. All are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
