The Olson Center for Women’s Health and UNMC College of Nursing will present a webinar on “Pharmacologic & Exercise Approaches to Managing Bone Loss” on Aug. 8 at noon.
Laura Bilek, PhD, associate dean for research with the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions, and Lynn Mack, MD, associate professor of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, will lead the presentation.
Drs. Bilek and Mack will discuss the pathophysiology of osteopenia and osteoporosis and explain the importance of the WHO Fracture Risk calculator (FRAX) in determining who should take medication based on evidence-based practice.
The audience will learn to identify the mechanisms of action and side effects of FDA-approved treatments for osteoporosis. Participants also will learn how bone modeling and exercise impact bone health, as derived from case-based research studies.
Nursing credit is available at no cost, and anyone is welcome to attend. Register online through Zoom or by contacting Courtney Smith by email or at 402-559-6618.
