How I fell in love with surgery:
I have always wanted to be a doctor. I went to a small medical school that allowed me hands-on access in the operating room very early in my training. I fell in love with surgery — the environment, the people, and the immediate gratification of knowing a problem exists and attempting to fix it. As a resident, I realized that I needed to love my job beyond the OR. That’s what led me to breast surgical oncology, where I truly enjoy working in the clinic, the patient population, and the team effort needed to manage the constantly changing world of breast cancer care, in addition to the OR.
