New policy will clarify rules for notices, flyers

In response to an increased number of notices and informational flyers being placed on building doorways and on interior and exterior walls, UNMC has begun work on a policy to clarify where informational flyers may be placed throughout UNMC campuses and buildings.

“This is an effort to ensure that recognized groups are able to share their information on designated boards and spaces throughout UNMC’s campuses, while at the same time ensuring that flyers do not serve as a fire hazard or cause property damage from corrosive glue or other adhesive,” said Jane Meza, PhD, interim vice chancellor for academic affairs at UNMC.

As the policy is drafted, flyers posted on doorways, walls and non-authorized indoor or outdoor spaces will be removed. No postings should be pasted, nailed, taped, stapled or otherwise attached to UNMC buildings, light posts, telephone poles, trees or other areas not intended for flyers/posters. The policy will extend to UNMC buildings/campuses in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Norfolk.

Recognized UNMC programs, groups and student organizations are encouraged to post information on the campus events calendar and/or Engage calendar and to post printed flyers on boards designated for that purpose within UNMC buildings. For instance, a board is available on the third level of the Sorrell Center – near student lockers.

Those who wish to have information shared via campus digital boards can send slides to UNMC Strategic Communications (for possible placement across all Omaha-based campus monitors) or to individuals responsible for monitors in specific areas (a list soon will be available on Brandwise). Branded monitor slide templates (and formatting guidelines) can be found on UNMC Brand Wise.
