UNMC’s 2025 Employee Engagement Survey will open on Tuesday, April 15, giving 5,000 UNMC employees an important opportunity to offer their perspectives on what’s happening around campus.
Administrators have set a high goal for this survey – aiming to achieve an 80% response. Employee feedback is essential in shaping a better workplace at UNMC, said Linda Cunningham, interim executive director of UNMC Human Resources.
Cunningham said the importance of the survey goes well beyond gathering feedback. UNMC has a track record of responding to the employee survey with tangible changes – and looks forward to implementing changes out of this survey, as well.
Cunningham emphasized the importance of each employee’s input: “At UNMC, every perspective matters. Your feedback is essential in driving the changes that will help us continue to improve and grow. We want to hear from everyone – whether it’s positive or negative.”
UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, said: “We encourage everyone to participate in taking this survey. It is your opportunity to help us understand how to support you better and create a workplace where everyone can thrive. Prior surveys have been incorporated into making UNMC a better place, and your honest feedback will guide us as we work to make thoughtful, informed choices going forward.”
UNMC has a history of carrying out the surveys, with the last one administered in 2019. Although the pandemic and budget pressures held off the survey in recent years, Cunningham said it was important to get a fresh, comprehensive look at employee feedback from around UNMC, from its faculty and regular staff, which will include house officers.
The survey will run from April 15-26, with emails containing a confidential link to the survey sent to employees’ UNMC inbox. UNMC Human Resources has engaged with Engage2Excel to administer the 2025 survey, with assistance from Quantum Workplace. Survey emails will be delivered from Quantum Workplace and the email domain quantumworkplace.com.
Cunningham encouraged employees to complete the survey as soon as possible. “It should take only about 10 to 15 minutes to complete,” she said. “Although the survey opens on Tax Day – Tuesday, April 15 – completing it will be much easier than filing your taxes.”
To encourage participation, survey reminders will be sent on Thursday, April 17, Tuesday, April 22, and Friday, April 25. These reminders will stop once an employee completes the survey.
The survey will close on Saturday, April 26.
“We’re excited to present the 2025 Employee Engagement Survey and look forward to learning everything that all our employees want us to know,” Cunningham said. “Every employee’s participation is essential to making this important effort a success.”
Cunningham emphasized the confidentiality of the survey.
Through its collaboration with the external survey vendor, UNMC will not receive any information that personally identifies any survey participant or their responses. While the survey links are unique to each employee, Cunningham emphasized that this is to allow responses to be sorted by different categories, such as various organizational units and departments. Individual responses will remain anonymous and cannot be traced back to any employee.
Additionally, no data will be reported for any group with fewer than five responses to ensure anonymity.
Cunningham said employees should have complete confidence in the anonymity of their responses and participation.
Once results are fully compiled, the survey information will be available to individual departments and managers to review and respond. Cunningham said this survey was chosen in part because of the powerful data dashboard it will offer for managers to review results.
Cunningham expressed confidence that the survey results will lead to meaningful improvements at UNMC. “It’s up to all of our leaders and managers to take this feedback and turn it into positive change,” she said. “By working together and focusing on the feedback, we can continue to improve our workplace and make UNMC an even better place to work.”
After the 2017 survey, for instance, UNMC redesigned its employee training and development program available through human resources. The “Reimagining U” program now offers between 30 and 40 courses each year, allowing more than 300 employees to register for classes in both the fall and spring sessions.
As with previous surveys, UNMC will be highlighting changes based on survey responses by applying “You Asked, We Listened!” stickers and logos.
Cunningham said UNMC administrators will value the feedback from the 2025 Employee Engagement Survey and act on it.
“We’re looking forward to continuing to improve this process,” she said, “and ensuring that the survey results lead to real, visible changes.”
