UNMC’s graduate and professional schools are among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 “Best Graduate Schools” guide, released Tuesday.
Out of four evaluative tiers, UNMC’s College of Medicine was ranked a Tier 2 institution in both research and primary care training. Last year, U.S. News began assigning group rankings to medical schools instead of individual rankings for each institution. UNMC also ranked eighth for most graduates practicing in rural areas and 67th for most graduates practicing in primary care.
“These rankings are reflective of UNMC’s commitment – across all colleges and programs – to provide exceptional academic experiences for students,” said UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD. “Our mission to serve Nebraskans and prepare the state’s health care workforce drives everything we do, and we are honored to be recognized for those efforts.”
The following UNMC programs are newly ranked in this year’s guide:
- Physician assistant program is tied at No. 14
- Physical therapy is ranked No. 37
- Public health is tied at No. 42
- Doctor of Nursing Practice is tied for No. 57
- Occupational therapy is tied at No. 79
- Most graduates practicing in health professional shortage areas: UNMC ranked No. 138. These areas can be rural or urban areas and are sometimes referred to as medical deserts.
Although not newly ranked this year, U.S. News also has recognized the following UNMC programs:
- Pharmacy tied at No. 19
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing at No. 19
- Biostatistics tied at No. 56
Rankings are based on two types of data: expert opinion about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research, students and post-graduate outcomes for them. Refer to each program’s specific methodology for detailed explanations of any methodological changes.
Not all graduate and professional programs are ranked annually. For a complete list of rankings for UNMC, visit the U.S. News & World Report website.
