Nebraska native Patrick Arnold was one of five UNMC medical students who learned they had matched to the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology at UNMC’s Match Day event on March 21.
“I’m super excited to join the department,” Arnold said, adding: “As long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a physician—I also enjoy the unique patient interactions that anesthesia provides as you must earn the patient’s trust moments before they undergo something as stressful as surgery.”
On March 21, 126 UNMC medical students opened their Match Day envelopes to learn their residency assignments during a ceremony at the Omaha Design Center.
Accompanied by his wife, medical student Trevor Daubert was excited to announce his residency match at UNMC. “I’m amped, I’m from Omaha and UNMC is a phenomenal program. I’m really looking forward to my experience and education here, I’m so excited,” he said.
Kaili Jorgens also will continue her training at UNMC, citing the supportive environment and amazing people as reasons she wanted to stay. “Anesthesiology is the perfect combination of being hands-on, fast-paced and requiring critical thinking—all things which mesh perfectly with my personality and desires for a career.”
Residency program director Andrea Dutoit, MD, said she is thrilled to welcome this exceptional group of medical students into the UNMC anesthesiology residency program. “Matching such bright, passionate individuals is a reflection of the strength of our program and the exciting future of our specialty. These students bring fresh perspectives, unique backgrounds, and a genuine commitment to patient care,” Dr. Dutoit said. “We look forward to mentoring them, learning from them and watching them grow into outstanding anesthesiologists.”
Andrew Patterson, MD, PhD, chair of the department, welcomes each of the new residents to the program. “I want to acknowledge the hard work of Dr. Dutoit and the education team. This year’s outstanding Match results are a product of their substantial efforts,” he said. “The individuals who matched to UNMC are exceptional and I am delighted to have these outstanding physicians join our department.”
