New resident spotlight: Kaili Jorgens

Kaili Jorgens is a new resident physician with the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.

Medical School: University of Nebraska College of Medicine

Why did you choose the medical field? I grew up initially wanting to be a vet but realized in high school how rewarding it is to connect with and help people. I was drawn to the human side of medicine and the ability to build relationships and make a difference in people’s lives.

What made you choose anesthesiology? It’s the perfect combination of being hands-on, fast-paced, and requiring critical thinking—all things which mesh perfectly with my personality and desires for a career. Also, the people within the field have been so supportive and amazing to learn from.

List three accomplishments you are proud of:

  • Being the first physician (almost) in my family.
  • Having found such a great support system in my family and friends.
  • Matching into anesthesiology and getting to stay in Nebraska for my training.

List three things about you that others may not know:

  • I have a red labrador retriever named Bru.
  • I’m a dual citizen of the US and Ireland.
  • I love to travel and have been to 17 countries so far.
