The UNMC Faculty Senate has announced seven recipients of this year’s faculty awards.
The Faculty Senate will recognize the honorees for meritorious teaching, mentoring and community service during the annual faculty meeting on Wednesday, April 16, at 3 p.m. in the Durham Research Center auditorium. The event is open to the med center community.
“Congratulations to all UNMC Annual Faculty Senate awardees for your dedication to mentor our students and faculty and to provide extraordinary care in education and community services,” said Joseph Siu, PhD, president of the UNMC Faculty Senate for 2024-25, and professor in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions and chair of global health opportunities in the physical therapy program.
The awardees are:
Outstanding Faculty Mentor of Graduate Students
- Windy Alonso, PhD, associate professor, UNMC College of Nursing
- Scot Ouellette, PhD, professor, UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology in the UNMC College of Medicine
Outstanding Faculty Mentor of Junior Faculty
- Pooneh Bagher, PhD, associate professor, UNMC Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology in the UNMC College of Medicine
- Apar Kishor Ganti, MD, professor, Division of Oncology/Hematology, UNMC Department of Internal Medicine in the UNMC College of Medicine
Outstanding Teacher
- Sean Avedissian, PharmD, PhD, assistant professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, UNMC College of Pharmacy
- Geoffrey Talmon, MD, professor, UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, and vice chair, medical education, both in the UNMC College of Medicine
Spirit of Community Service
- Shantharam Joshi, PhD, professor, UNMC Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy in the UNMC College of Medicine
