Robert Gallo, MD, director of the USF Health Virology Institute, co-founder of the Global Virus Network and a renowned HIV and AIDS researcher, will join other leading researchers when the Society of NeuroImmune Pharmacology holds its annual conference June 8-11. The conference will be hosted by researchers from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Dr. Gallo will be joined by James Rooney, MD, Serge Przedborski, MD, Christopher Wheeler, PhD, Charles Flexner, MD, Paul Domanico, PhD, and other internationally recognized researchers.
The conference, at Embassy Suites in Omaha, will feature 12 symposia, a formal banquet, award ceremonies, student presentations and networking events for scientists from around the world. The four-day event will feature early- and later-career scientists and serve to strengthen connections between the disciplines of immunology, pharmacology and the specific disciplines of viral pathobiology, substance misuse, neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases, HIV/AIDS and the basic sciences in general for a focus on the role of neuroinflammation.
The event also will promote the new Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology and Therapeutics, edited by Howard Gendelman, MD, chair of the UNMC Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience and Society’s president. All abstract presentations at the meeting will be published online to ensure broad access through the new journal.
UNMC researchers interested in attending the conference should contact Amy Sather, research coordinator for the department, for more information.
