You are the recipient of the Excellence in Educational Service Award. Why is “service to our learners” important in health care education?

I owe a debt of gratitude to the instructors and physicians, both academic and in private practice, who trained me. They will never realize the impact they have had on my professional and personal development. Paying it forward by educating the next generation of health care professionals acknowledges and magnifies the spirit and generosity of those who taught me. Long after I am gone, I sincerely hope that my call to service inspires others to do the same.

Describe your proudest moment as an educator.

My proudest moment as an educator is watching my former students succeed, knowing I was part of their journey.

What do you want others to know about your teaching experience?

The absolute best part about teaching is the long-lasting and genuine relationships that I have developed from mentoring trainees. The return on this effort is truly amazing.

Do you have a favorite quote or philosophy on teaching?

A successful teacher will set high expectations, provide the resources for success and lead by example.
