Heart health in women is focus of Heart Month series

The Olson Center for Women’s Health and Nebraska Medicine Cardiovascular Services will present “Let’s Talk About Heart Health in Women” during Heart Month.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the U.S. and can affect women at any age, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The series on heart health in women will bring attention this health issue. Each session will be provided virtually.

Hypertension in Women

This presentation is part of the Olson Center and College of Nursing 2025 Webinar Series. It is free and offers nursing credit at no cost. Learning objectives:

  • Identify key risk factors for hypertension, with a focus on gender-specific contributors.
  • Explore effective management strategies for hypertension, including lifestyle modifications and medical interventions.
  • Discuss the DASH diet and its impact on management of hypertension and heart disease

Gender Disparities in Heart Disease

This presentation will discuss gender differences in heart disease, with a focus on myocardial infarction and heart failure, as well as diagnosis and treatment options. This talk also will cover pregnancy-related cardiovascular disease conditions, including gestational hypertension and peripartum cardiomyopathy.

Heart Health in Menopause
Tuesday, Feb. 25, 12 p.m. CST. Kali Gagnon, DO, cardiovascular disease, Nebraska Medicine

This presentation will discuss the hormonal changes in menopause and the correlation with increased risk for cardiovascular disease.
