Research and professional interests:

After completing my pediatric dental residency, I spent 28 years in private practice in Greensboro and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I am eager to share my private practice experience with pediatric dental residents and dental students. In addition to my role as a pediatric dentist, I am a certified Clifton Strengths coach. I use Clifton Strengths to mentor pre-dental and pre-medical students through the application process. Additionally, I work as an executive coach and serve as an invited speaker for career development offices at several universities.

How did you fall in love with dentistry?

From a very young age, I fell in love with the idea of becoming a dentist. While I enjoyed brushing my dolls’ teeth, I didn’t initially enjoy going to the dentist myself. However, as I explored career options, I was continually drawn to the dental profession thanks to inspiring mentors and positive dental experiences.

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I have owned several businesses throughout my life, starting with my first at the age of 9.
  • As a child and teenager, I raised sheep and hogs.
  • I earned my bachelor’s degree in textile science and have a passion for designing and sewing clothing and costumes for theatrical productions.
