Med center employees are encouraged to be aware of phone scams and email phishing attempts, after a spate of recent calls in which UNMC employees were contacted by scammers pretending to offer annual comprehensive retirement reports.
Several of the calls showed on caller ID to originate from Fairmont, Nebraska. Should you receive a call that you believe is a scam, please contact the non-emergency Campus Security dispatch number, 402-559-5111. Employees should try to write down and report the incoming, fraudulent phone number, if possible.
Employees also can report calls to the FCC, which offers information on stopping unwanted robocalls and texts.
While there have been no recent reports of widespread email phishing, employees who think they are the target of an email scam should not click on any links and use the “Report Phish” feature tab on Outlook to alert IT Security to the phishing attempt.
