Join hosts Steven Wengel, MD, assistant vice chancellor for wellness at UNMC, and Metropolitan Community College’s Brian O’Malley, dean of culinary arts and horticulture, for “Keep Calm and Cook On.”
“Keep Calm and Cook On” sessions are virtual cooking demonstrations held via Zoom for the UNMC community. There will be three installments: December 2024, January 2025 and February 2025.
“In our busy lives these days, it’s easy to neglect the basics, like finding ways to fix and eat healthy meals,” Dr. Wengel said. “At the same time, there is new research linking healthy eating to better mental health. So what’s not to love about the new ‘Keep Calm and Cook On’ series? You get to watch a master chef give us really practical ways to prepare absolutely delicious healthy meals and get a nutrition mini-lecture to boot.
“I can’t wait to see what we will learn this time around.”
The 90-minute presentations include nutritional information and a live question-and-answer session.
Nutritional highlights are provided by Mariah Jackson, PhD, assistant professor in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions’ medical nutrition program.
“Our food choices are an important part of supporting our wellbeing and reducing risk for chronic disease, but also a source of joy and community,” Dr. Jackson said. “Learn with us about that balance, making small changes for life-long happy and healthy living.”

“Keep Calm and Cook On” is a joint effort between UNMC Human Resources, UNMC’s wellness program and medical nutrition staff and Metropolitan Community College’s Institute for the Culinary Arts’ Open Kitchen. UNMC shares names of attendees with MCC for auditing purposes.
