My professional journey:

After completing my pediatric dental residency, I spent 28 years in private practice in Greensboro and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During this time, I worked as an associate, independent contractor, and owner in private practice. As an owner, I hired and mentored two associates, helping them develop into partners. Additionally, I designed and launched a satellite practice. I am eager to share my private practice experience with pediatric dental residents and dental students.

Accomplishments I am most proud of:

Raising two amazing young men while establishing myself as a leader in my profession and community. I love mentoring young people on their path to success.

My research and professional interests:

In addition to my role as a pediatric dentist, I am a Certified Clifton Strengths Coach. I use Clifton Strengths to mentor pre-dental and pre-medical students through the application process. Additionally, I work as an executive coach and serve as an invited speaker for career development offices at several universities.

How I fell in love with dentistry:

From a very young age, I fell in love with the idea of becoming a dentist. While I enjoyed brushing my dolls’ teeth, I didn’t initially enjoy going to the dentist myself. However, as I explored career options, I was continually drawn to the dental profession thanks to inspiring mentors and positive dental experiences.

Why I joined UNMC:

As a graduate of the UNMC College of Dentistry, the idea of giving back to the program that positively shaped my career and life has always been on my mind. Teaching pediatric dentistry to dental students and residents at UNMC felt like the perfect opportunity for me at this stage of my life.

About my family:

I am married to Paul Rohlfing, and we have two sons, Grant and Pierce. Grant graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in chemical engineering and Pierce graduated from Clemson with a degree in bioengineering. Pierce is currently a first-year dental student at the UNMC College of Dentistry.

My favorite things to do on a day off:

I love to travel and explore new cultures and foods.
