Legislative candidate tours iEXCEL

iEXCEL's Michael Hollins, left, led Dan McKeon on a tour of the iEXCEL program.

Editor’s note: UNMC writes a brief article on each candidate for office who has an official visit to campus before Nov. 1. If you are a candidate and wish to visit UNMC for a briefing, please contact Jeff Kratz, director of government relations, at jekratz@unmc.edu.

Dan McKeon, candidate for Legislative District 41 in the Nebraska Unicameral, recently visited UNMC. (District 41 encompasses Wheeler, Boone, Greeley, Valley, Sherman and Howard counties, as well as part of Buffalo and Hall counties.)

McKeon toured iEXCEL in the company of Jeffrey Kratz, UNMC director of government relations, and iEXCEL’s Michael Hollins.

McKeon said he was impressed by the iEXCEL program.

“I’m about hands on — that’s the way you learn,” he said. “Being an ag ed degree holder, that’s what I did. You can read a book on how to weld, but unless you’re there…

“And I love what they’re doing with teamwork. Being a former EMT, when you get to the site, everything is about saving that patient. There’s got to be a process, and everybody understands what the team goal is.”
