Orange Shirt Day presentation on boarding schools
On Monday, Sept. 30, community members and colleagues gathered for an Orange Shirt Day presentation aimed at raising awareness about the impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities.
The event drew students, families, community leaders and colleagues from various organizations, with an overall attendance of 42 virtually or in-person.
The presentation, given by Janelle Whipple, featured information on boarding schools and involved stories from survivors, who shared their experiences with the residential school system, as well as personal stories from Whipple.
The experience encouraged reflection, dialogue and a commitment to supporting Indigenous communities.
Attendees wore orange shirts to honor the memory of those affected by residential schools, serving as a powerful visual representation of the ongoing journey toward healing and reconciliation.
