The UNMC and Nebraska Medicine IT team reminds people regularly throughout the year about the importance of cybersecurity. However, October is especially important for the information security team.
This year, as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a series of engaging events and activities have been organized to educate and involve the community in cybersecurity practices.

- Tuesday, Oct. 8, at noon: AI in Cybersecurity: Presentation by Josiah Dykstra, PhD, director of Strategic Initiatives at Trail of Bits.
- Monday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m.: Medical Device Cybersecurity: Presentation by Jon Helgason, Cybersecurity Biomed program manager with Nebraska Medicine.
- Thursday, Oct. 17, at 9 a.m.: Level Up Your Cyber Trivia Game Show: Sign up to participate.
- Monday, Oct. 21, through Monday, Oct. 28: Phishing Tournament: For the entry form and more details, click here. The Top 10 finishers will receive a phishing trophy and a donated prize.
- Tuesday, Oct. 29, at noon: Current Phishing Threats: Presentation by Cheryl O’Dell, enterprise IT security engineer with Nebraska Medicine.
Also, each Wednesday during October, visit the information booth outside of Nebraska Cafe from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to pick up a trinket and enter a weekly giveaways.
In the weekly giveaways, participants will take a three-question survey to enter weekly drawings for a chance to win prizes, including vouchers, gift cards and other swag donated by business sponsors.
