Suit Up! event at the Community Wellness Collaborative

The UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Community Wellness Collaborative will partner with the Midlands African Chamber and its Suit Up! Program for an event Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event will offer attendees a chance to level up their business attire and get career guidance. It will include free suit and business attire, free resume coaching, free professional headshot photos and mini-makeovers.

It will be held in at the Community Wellness Collaborative at Seventy Five North, 2120 N. 29th St., Suite 200.

UNMC retirements announced

In September, UNMC Human Resources announced six retirements and one upcoming retirement.

Retirees included Mary Jobes, a professor in the UNMC College of Nursing-Lincoln Division, who retired on Sept. 1 after a 40-year career at the medical center that began on Aug. 20, 1984.

Other retirements announced this month:

  • Stuart Dayton, McGoogan Health Sciences Library, retired Sept. 4 (start date Sept. 3, 1985)
  • Paula Swanson, UNMC Department of Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health, retired Aug. 3 (start date May 29, 1986)
  • Randall Harder, UNMC Department of General Supply, will retire Oct. 10 (start date Sept. 19, 1994)
  • Nancy Stuart, UNMC College of Nursing-Kearney Division, retired Sept. 1 (start date Jan. 5, 1998)
  • Shelley Thorpe, UNMC College of Dentistry, retired Sept. 13 (start date Nov. 1, 2019)
  • Anna Schwartz, PhD, UNMC College of Nursing-Omaha Division, retired Sept. 1 (start date Aug. 15, 2022)

Registration open for College of Medicine Research Retreat

Registration now is open for the UNMC College of Medicine Research Retreat, to be held at the Durham Research Center Auditorium and Commons on Oct. 8 from 3-7 p.m.

The retreat, which is open to faculty, staff and administrators in the college, highlights and celebrates the accomplishments of UNMC College of Medicine researchers. There will be appetizers, beverages and award presentations.

Food vendors will be located on both the east and west sides of campus, serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. The current schedule is:

East end of campus (Sorrell Center, Alumni Commons area):

  • Thursday – Taste of Heaven
  • Friday – Pim’s Thai Catering & Take Out

West end of campus (Durham Research Center’s Maurer Commons area):
