As the new academic year begins, incoming UNMC students from every college, campus and program will be welcomed with a variety of orientation activities.

While the UNMC colleges and programs organize their own orientation events for the fall, the UNMC Division of Student Success hosts a UNMC-wide New Student Orientation that focuses on resources and skills to support success while at UNMC.

August and early September will feature these activities:

Tours of the Center for Healthy Living: Wednesday, Aug. 21, 8-9 a.m.

Staff at the center will provide guided tours of the facility and highlight activities such as intramural sports and fitness classes. Any member of the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine community also is welcome to attend a tour. The Center for Healthy Living is located in the Student Life Center.

New Student OrientationWednesday, Aug. 21, 9-11:30 a.m.

Facilitated by the UNMC Office of Academic Success, New Student Orientation takes place simultaneously for all incoming UNMC students. Presentations include a welcome video from campus leaders, an overview of prioritizing wellness into, throughout and beyond their educational journey, and opportunities to connect with UNMC peer leaders.

Student Involvement Fair: Wednesday, Aug. 21, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

UNMC is home to more than 100 registered student organizations across its five campuses in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Norfolk and Scottsbluff. Following orientation, students can connect with student organization members and leadership and sign up for activities. Lunch will be provided. This event is held at the Center for Healthy Living activity courts.

Tours of the McGoogan Health Sciences Library: Sept. 3, 2024, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Staff from the library will be available in Wittson Hall, Level 6, to give tours to incoming students.

Interprofessional Education Orientation Event: Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1-4 p.m.

Students will attend a panel of current health professions to learn about the importance of interprofessional teamwork and communication, and they will participate in a series of exercises that illustrate challenges to successful cooperation among team members in modern health care.

#WeAreUNMC BBQ: Aug. 28, 3:30-6 p.m.

UNMC faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the all-campus BBQ at the Center for Healthy Living activity courts. (Note that the event has been moved inside from the Ruth & Bill Scott Student Plaza.) Attendees with a UNMC ID badge can enjoy free food and giveaways (while supplies last), music and yard games.

Email the UNMC Division of Student Success with any questions about New Student Orientation activities.
