UNMC’s Davis Global Center to participate in Open Omaha on Saturday

Dr. Edwin G. & Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center

On Saturday, Aug. 3, UNMC’s Edwin G. & Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center will join more than 70 venues in the Omaha metro area for Open Omaha 2024.

The free, metro-wide open house – scheduled this weekend (Aug. 3-4) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – provides a behind-the-scenes look into the fascinating spaces within the community. At participating venues, ranging from historic sites to sacred spaces to workplaces and more, visitors can take tours, see demonstrations and ask questions.

Open Omaha is self-guided, so participants choose the places that pique their interest and navigate the metro at their own pace. Some venues are open both Saturday and Sunday; some one day only. To learn more, including venue listings by neighborhood, visit Open Omaha. Participants also can download the Open Omaha app for details.

At UNMC, participants can explore iEXCEL on Saturday, Aug. 3, only by strolling through the first floor of the Davis Global Center, where they will see various advanced technologies used by students to enhance their medical education. They can witness a holographic demonstration, experiment with 3D anatomical workbenches and interact with the touch walls scattered throughout the floor.

Additionally, small group tours of the Global Center for Health Security are available every half hour from the atrium, guided by a member of the GCHS team. During these tours, participants will gain insights into the nation’s only federal quarantine unit and UNMC’s biocontainment initiatives, including the activation of the facility for the first known COVID-positive patients in 2020.
