Nebraska legislative candidate Allison Heimes visits campus

Allison Heimes hears about UNMC's iEXCEL program from Moriah McCune, iEXCEL's community engagement coordinator.

Editor’s note: UNMC writes a brief article on each candidate for office who has an official visit to campus before Nov. 1. If you are a candidate and wish to visit UNMC for a briefing, please contact Jeff Kratz, director of government relations, at jekratz@unmc.edu.

Nebraska legislative candidate Allison Heimes, who is running to represent District 39 in Omaha, met with university leaders and toured the Davis Global Center on July 14.

“I’m really excited about the technology and innovation (at iEXCEL),” Heimes said. “It gives me a lot of hope for how future generations will use technology to support medical education.”

As a mental health advocate, Heimes said she has a strong interest in supporting mental health education and resources.

“It’s inspiring to see how we are using technology to educate our students and improving the way we provide health care to future generations.”

During the tour, Heimes donned a 3D headset to view the inside of a blood vessel within a human heart in iEXCEL’s five-sided laser cave.

“The simulation technologies are really impressive,” she said. “I believe we’re on the cutting edge of medicine here.”
