Retirement tea for Karen Stoysich set for Thursday

A retirement tea will be held for Karen Stoysich, administrative/finance associate in the UNMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, who is retiring from UNMC after more than 40 years of service.

The reception is scheduled for Thursday, July 25, from 2-4 p.m. at the Wigton Heritage Center atrium. Remarks will start at 3 p.m.

Stoyisch joined the department in 1984, initially as a staff secretary for clinical faculty. She also served as the department’s student clerkship coordinator. She became the department’s administrative specialist in 1992, handling purchasing, accounts payable, ledger reconciliation and payroll/personnel.

“Karen’s corporate knowledge and wisdom about how to get things done in a complicated university system will be greatly missed,” said Carl Smith, MD, chair of the department. “Her unflappable personality makes her easy to work with. It is colleagues such as her that make it possible for academic departments to succeed. “

Richard Blum, director of the Olson Center for Women’s Health and Stoysich’s supervisor, has worked with her for 32 years. He called her the keystone of the OB/GYN department.

“She has always quietly gone about her business in support of our mission,” Blum said. “The common terms used by everyone to describe Karen are thorough, dedicated, trustworthy, meticulous and always helpful.”

Blum called Stoysich an “old-school” employee who has adapted and flourished with each new system, policy and procedure change that the university has implemented during her tenure. “We’ll miss her expertise, her ability to just ‘get it done’ and her professionalism, as well as her unwavering good attitude, friendly demeanor, dedication to helping others and genuine caring approach with everyone.”
