Dr. Amy Killeen named Moran Professor of Periodontics

Amy C. Killeen, DDS, MS.

Congratulations to Amy Killeen, DDS, MS, Associate Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Surgical Specialties, on being named the Moran Professor of Periodontics.

The Dr. Bernard and Ann Moran Fund for Excellence recognizes full-time faculty who demonstrate outstanding research abilities and accomplishments, as well as academic promise. Dr. Killeen succeeds Dr. Rick Reinhardt, who held the professorship for the past decade.

Dr. Killeen received her DDS, certificate in periodontics, and master’s degree in oral biology from the UNMC College of Dentistry. Her research interests include inflammation control in the periodontal maintenance patient and developing a better understanding of post-extraction wound healing and how it can be manipulated to improve bone and soft tissue regeneration.

She has been a research mentor for many graduate and undergraduate students, and has received multiple grants, including being named the D.H. Reinhardt Scholar in 2012 and 2020. Dr. Killeen also received the Colgate Award for Research Excellence (CARE) in 2020 and the Tussing-Kaldahl Scholar Award in 2023.
