Timothy Colwell, MD, joins the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.

Education:

Why did you choose the medical field?

I chose the medical field because during my time as a nursing assistant I found I really liked being with and taking care of patients. Additionally, I felt becoming a physician would enable me to have a long, fulfilling career where I would be able to positively impact many people’s lives.

What made you choose anesthesiology?

I chose anesthesiology because I liked the combination of cerebral and procedural components. I also really liked taking care of patients perioperatively through what can be a very stressful time for them.

List three accomplishments you are proud of:

  • Playing baseball at North Dakota State University.
  • Gaining acceptance to medical school.
  • Matching into anesthesiology at UNMC!

Three things about you that others may not know:

  • I played baseball for six years after college including one winter in Australia.
  • I am, unfortunately, a big Minnesota professional sports fan.
  • I am really passionate about hot sauce.
