Reminder: Celebration reception for Dr. Gold is today

UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD

The UNMC community is invited to an all-campus reception today (June 24) to celebrate the tenure of UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and reflect on his 10 years of leadership.

Dr. Gold will begin his new role as University of Nebraska System president on July 1. Dr. Gold has served as UNMC chancellor since February 2014.

Today’s all-campus reception will be from 2-4 p.m. in the Sorrell Center’s Truhlsen Events Center. A brief program will begin at 3 p.m. For those unable to attend the program, a Zoom link is available on the campus calendar at this link.

The reception’s theme — “From Excellence to Eminence: Celebrating 10 Years at UNMC” — reflects the message he shared with the campus community and public in his 2014 investiture speech. Read some of the many med center accomplishments under Dr. Gold’s leadership.

UNMC faculty, staff and students and the UNMC community are invited to use this form to share thoughts, wishes and memories with Dr. Gold. The comments will be shared with him when he begins his new role on July 1.

As a UNMC Lincoln College of Nursing faculty, albeit for a short tenure as a second doctorate has called me away, I will always remember the December 2022 spoof and take on a Night Before Christmas as the university concluded for holiday break. It was just a magical production down to the snow falling at the right time and your long black overcoat and that matching hat that I admired. Months later I met you and brought my appreciation for the video up to you and we had a laugh. You truly are a very humanizing leader, someone who is able to capture daily life such as the holidays coming just like everyone else. I know the Board of Regents made a great decision. We need a warm and caring person leading the best university in the country! Best wishes!
