Following the April 26 tornado that hit Washington County, the UNMC College of Public Health will join with Three Rivers Public Health Department and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to conduct a public health and safety survey in the county.

During this official public health emergency activity, volunteers from the participating organizations and other community volunteers will go door-to-door to complete a survey of damaged and undamaged homes in Washington County. Volunteers are on official business and will wear identification as they visit homes.

The survey will cover questions such as:

  • What warnings were heard on the day of the tornado?
  • What damage was sustained?
  • What assistance is needed?

Surveys should take around 15 minutes per household.

Volunteers will be out in the community this Thursday, May 16, through Saturday, May 18 at the following times:

  • Thursday – 1:30-7 p.m.
  • Friday – 1:30-7 p.m.
  • Saturday – 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Washington County Recovery Survey will allow public health and emergency officials to learn how to best assist the community in recovery efforts, as well as protect the community in future weather events.

The organizers appreciate the community’s participation.
