Diplomas and certificates were conferred on more than 1,100 UNMC students during the May 4 commencement ceremony in Omaha and ceremonies held May 2 in Lincoln, Norfolk and Kearney and May 4 in Scottsbluff.

UNMC honored three individuals with special awards: From left, Michael Sitorius, MD, and Kent Lacey, MD, who received the J.G. Elliott Award for significant contributions to medicine and health programs for the state of Nebraska, and Barry Gold, PhD, emeritus professor and former chair of pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, who received an Honorary Doctorate of Science.

UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold has participated in 31 commencement seasons as chancellor at UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. At right, entering the ceremony are Lepaine Sharp-McHenry, DNP, dean of the UNMC College of Nursing; Bradley Britigan, MD, dean of the UNMC College of Medicine, and H. Dele Davies, MD, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies.
