Dermatology chair Dr. Wysong leaving UNMC

Ashley Wysong, MD

Ashley Wysong, MD, will be departing from her role as professor and chair of the UNMC Department of Dermatology, effective July 1, UNMC College of Medicine Dean Bradley Britigan, MD, announced Tuesday.

Jennifer Adams, MD

Jennifer Adams, MD, currently vice chair of the department, associate professor and residency program director, will serve as interim department chair following Dr. Wysong’s departure.

“Dr. Wysong came to UNMC in 2018 as the founding chair of the department,” Dr. Britigan said. “She has been a forward-thinking and energetic leader, and she leaves the department in a strong position, with 16 faculty members and 12 house officers, clinical programs at several area hospitals and health systems, and research that has received national attention.”

Dr Wysong said: “I am extremely proud of the world class dermatology department we have built together at UNMC over the last six years and the comprehensive clinical programs developed at Nebraska Medicine, Children’s Nebraska and the Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System.

“We have outstanding leaders, faculty, students and staff in dermatology who are ready to take the torch and will continue our mission to provide exceptional patient care, educate future leaders and advance the field of dermatology.”

Dr. Wysong said she and husband Robert Lobato MD, professor and associate vice chair in the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology, are grateful to the UNMC and larger Omaha community for welcoming them with open arms and for providing outstanding support and memories.

“We thank Dr. Wysong and wish her well in her future endeavors,” Dr. Britigan said. “And we thank Dr. Adams for stepping into this important leadership role.”

Further communication regarding the search for a permanent replacement will be forthcoming, Dr. Britigan said.
