Turn trash into treasure for UNMC’s recycled art contest

UNMC will hold a recycled art contest as a part of its upcoming De-Stress Week and to celebrate Earth Day. Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in creating an original piece of art, made from all recycled materials.

To help rethink the usefulness of garbage, this contest encourages participants to remake, reuse and renew items normally recycled or thrown in the trash into something unique and beautiful.

Specifications on submissions and registration information are listed below.

Artwork specifications:

  • Submissions should be made of 100% recycled goods or trash. Glue, paint, screws and other fastening devices are not included in the 100%.
  • The artwork cannot exceed the size of two feet in any dimension.
  • Artwork must be free of any inappropriate words, phrases or imagery.
  • All work must be original (not a copy of someone else’s work or completed by someone not listed on the submission form).
  • An artist’s statement (no more than 150 words) must be included on the submission form to explain what the artist is conveying or communicating through the work of art.
  • A list of materials used within the art piece must be included on the submission form.
  • People’s choice voting will be done online through UNMC’s Facebook page. Voting will begin Tuesday, April 23, and close at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 25. The top two photos with the most likes will win a prize donated by the UNMC Office of Sustainability.

Entries should be submitted via this form by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17. Artwork from the contest will be exhibited in the McGoogan Health Sciences Library during De-Stress Week, April 22-26.
