Welcome to the spring 2024 issue of Graduate Posts!
First, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our December graduates. It was a great privilege for me to celebrate their accomplishments along with their faculty mentors, families and friends who supported them throughout their journey. These graduates now join our alumni ranks as future groundbreaking researchers, educators and a myriad of other professionals with bright futures ahead of them. Special thanks to Robin Cotter, PhD, UNMC alum and current professor at Phoenix College, for her inspirational insights and advice as the ceremony’s keynote speaker. She is a unique alumnus who is making a big difference impacting the career choices of hundreds of first-generation students by providing solid foundational research training that is not usually available to community colleges.
Second, as part of an ongoing effort to ensure our grad students have opportunities to build a community with fellow learners, our newsletters will be highlighting key graduate student organizations on campus. This issue, we highlight the UNMC Consulting Club, which aims to provide students with the necessary tools and insight to explore and prepare for a career in management consulting firms. Also, be sure to read the spotlight story on current GSA President Sophia Kisling.
Third, we are happy to announce For The Greater Good Giving Day 2024 is March 27-28, from noon-noon. Please join us to support UNMC Graduate Studies and our students.
Finally, as we look toward the future, it is also important to note how far we’ve come. I invite you to read our most recent annual report, which highlights how our talented graduate faculty and students are elevating health science education.
I hope you enjoy reading the latest edition of our Graduate Posts newsletter.
