Emerging professionals invites med center to upcoming events

Alëna Balasanova, MD

The UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Emerging Professionals Program (EPP) invite med center colleagues to join them at their upcoming events.

CPR training

EPP and the Administrative Professionals Network will offer two free, noncertification (educational) cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses for nonclinical employees in March.

The course will include instruction on CPR for adults, infants and children, as well as choking and automated external defibrillator guidance. Please note that no certification will be given upon completion of this course.

Classes will take place at the UNMC Center for Continuing Education, located on level two of UNMC Annex 14 at 4460 Farnam St. at intersection of Farnam Street and Saddle Creek Road.

Registration is required for each class.

Membership forum – April 2, noon to 1 p.m., via Zoom

Hosted on a quarterly basis, these forums provide an opportunity for members and non-members to catch up on what the program has been doing and learn about upcoming events.

This quarter, there also will be an interactive workshop on networking. Presented by Celeste Spier, director of organizational development for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, attendees will learn the importance of networking, dos and don’ts, how to engage in small talk and more.

Harmful effects of stigmatizing language – April 18, noon to 1 p.m., in-person and via Zoom

In this session with Alëna Balasanova, MD, associate professor, department of psychiatry and director of addiction psychiatry education at UNMC, attendees will learn the importance of reducing stigmatizing language in medicine and ways that stigmatizing language impacts patient care.

This is a hybrid event that will be held in the Sorrell Center, Room 2018. EPP will provide lunch for the first 30 people. Register here.

Since the launch of the Emerging Professionals Program (EPP) back in 2017, the group has hosted numerous professional development events, given more than 688 hours back to the community and has grown to 650 members. For more information on events and how to get involved, check the EPP website.
