Black History Month employee highlights: Evelyn Grixby

Evelyn Grixby

During Black History Month, UNMC acknowledges the outstanding accomplishments of our Black faculty and staff members.

Today’s feature highlights Evelyn Grixby, employee relations programs coordinator with UNMC Human Resources. Grixby has been with UNMC for 30 years.

What is the most notable achievement in your professional journey?

The opportunities to network, connect and serve the students, faculty and staff here at UNMC have been an amazing and rewarding experience. Being a three-time recipient of the Silver “U” Award and recipient of the Chancellor’s Commendation Community Service Award and the Chancellor’s Commendation Gold “U” Award is an honor that makes me feel proud and genuinely humbled to continue doing what drives my passion to serve others. I have the utmost gratitude for my past and present leadership for their investment in my professional development, which has helped to shape my UNMC career.

What initiatives or projects have you been involved in to help promote diversity and equity?

In 2016, I began coordinating the Step-Up Omaha Summer Intern Program on the UNMC campus. It has since expanded to include intern assignments on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. A partnership between the Empowerment Network and City of Omaha, the Step-Up program provides UNMC worksite partners with opportunities to connect students ages 16-21 to careers of their interest. For seven weeks each summer, Step-Up interns gain soft skills training through meaningful on-campus experiences.
