New software offered for screen reading, magnification

UNMC IT Academic Technologies, the Accessibility Services Center and Human Resources are announcing a new institutional software licensing for faculty, staff and students that provides access to screen reading, screen magnification and visual enhancements for screen viewing.

The software, called Fusion (Jaws and ZoomText), is provided by Freedom Scientific and is available for UNMC-provided equipment and personal equipment that operates on the Windows operating system.

Fusion is an accessibility tool designed to assist individuals with any level of vision impairment. It combines the power and speed of Jaws (Job Access with Speech) for screen reading with ZoomText for screen magnification and visual enhancements.

Fusion offers a range of features, including a single installer with one activation code for all three products (Jaws, ZoomText and Fusion). The application features:

  • Magnification up to 60 times
  • Screen and cursor enhancements
  • High-quality speech using Eloquence and Vocalizer Expressive
  • Instant access to any Jaws customization
  • Familiar user interface
  • Powerful keyboard access including navigation to the web
  • Screen tracking synchronized with speech and Braille as users navigate and read
  • Compatibility with TypeAbility and J-Say

Additionally, IT Academic Technologies also provides a UNMC enterprise license for Anthology Ally, which is a Canvas add-on.
