TalkCampus is live for UNMC students

UNMC recently launched a new mental health service called TalkCampus to support students.

“We’re pleased to provide our students anonymous, 24/7 peer support through the TalkCampus platform,” said Jeff Knapp, director of counseling and psychological services at UNMC. “Our student’s mental health and well-being is always a primary concern and this platform is one of many resources available to them.”

UNMC also provides an array of student counseling and psychological resources from individual and group counseling to bio-feedback and relaxation training to mental heath first aid training. View a list of student resources.

The free-to-download TalkCampus app enables UNMC students to talk with other students from around the world about the ups and downs of life. Students simply download the app and sign up for free with their student email address.

The platform provides an anonymous community and safe space – think social media for mental health – to share information and support one another, Knapp said. The platform isn’t run by UNMC, and UNMC won’t be able to see who is using it. The platform, he said, is based around peer support that allows students to use it if they need some help or if they want to support others.

UNMC’s contract with TalkService is supported, in part, by the UNMC College of Nursing and a HRSA grant.
