Alice Shillingsburg, PhD, director of the integrated Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at MMI, joined UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, on a recent episode of “Rural Health Matters.”
Dr. Shillingsburg talked about the increasing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder, particularly in rural America, and what she called the “unique barriers” some rural communities face in accessing care.
In addition to discussing symptoms of autism spectrum disorder, screening and early detection, she also fielded questions from callers.
“Try to think about ways to support people with autism,” Dr. Shillingsburg to her audience. “When communities come together, we all do better.”
