Dr. Bartels named section editor for Anesthesia & Analgesia
Karsten Bartels, MD, PhD, has been named section editor for cardiovascular pathophysiology and outcomes for Anesthesia & Analgesia.
The journal is considered the global standard in anesthesiology, providing peer-reviewed articles on the latest advances in drugs, preoperative preparation, patient monitoring, pain management, pathophysiology and many other timely topics.
Dr. Bartels is the Robert Lieberman Endowed Chair in Anesthesiology and vice chair of research. His professional interests include care of cardiothoracic surgical patients in the operating room and the intensive care unit. Dr. Bartels’ research efforts focus on patient safety, clinical outcomes and pragmatic clinical trials in perioperative medicine. He also is invested in providing meaningful and concrete mentoring to students and trainees interested in a career in academic anesthesiology.
Retirements announced
Three longtime employees, two with more than 30 years of experience at UNMC, retired in December, the human resources department announced this month.
Theresa Pikschus of facilities, management and planning, retired Dec. 6. She started her UNMC career on June 5, 1990.
Kevin Epperson of the office of regulatory affairs also retired, on Dec. 12. Epperson joined UNMC on Oct. 29, 1990.
Each had been at UNMC for more than 33 years.
Michael Pearson of public safety retired Dec. 1. Pearson, who joined UNMC on June 18, 1994, had been at the medical center 29 years.
Holiday schedule for campus food vendors
The schedule of food vendors on the UNMC Omaha campus will change over the holidays.
Food vendors in the Sorrell Center will not be available Dec. 18 through Jan. 5. Food vendors at the Durham Research Center will not be available Dec. 25 thru Jan. 5.
For the week of Dec. 18, the west end of campus (Durham Research Center towers) will feature these vendors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily:
- Monday, Dec. 18 – Zemogs (food trailer located to the east of DRC 1)
- Tuesday, Dec. 19 – Streetside (food truck east of Durham Research Center)
- Thursday, Dec. 21 – Pim’s Thai Catering & Take Out (DRC II, Maurer Commons area)
- Friday, Dec. 22 – Let Me Feed You (Maurer Commons area)
