The UNMC College of Medicine Class of 1973 gathered for their 50-year reunion in October and celebrated with a series of events at the UNMC campus and in Omaha.
Highlights of the campus visit included touring the Davis Global Center and the Wigton Heritage Center, lunch with Dean Bradley Britigan, MD, and a reception in the Heritage Center Atrium.
Fifty members of the class participated in the reunion, making this the largest gathering of a 50-year reunion in at least 20 years, according to the UNMC Office of Alumni Relations. The group commemorated their 50th with a reception and dinner at the Embassy Suites Downtown/Old Market.
During an “In Memoriam” section of the event program, John Swanson, MD, and John Chin, MD, played “Amazing Grace” on their bagpipes, a special tribute that added to the emotion of the event.
Interesting facts about the class of 1973:
- The class is quite philanthropic and boasts five members in the UNMC College of Medicine Holyoke Society. They have two class funds established that give scholarships to medical students.
- From all UNMC classes, they had the most members in their class serve as president of the Nebraska Medical Association:
