In his latest “Health Care Heart to Heart” podcast, now streaming, UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, resumes his conversation with Sunil Hingorani, MD, PhD, director of the Pancreatic Cancer Center of Excellence at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.
In the second of two discussions posted during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Hingorani speaks about a new era in pancreatic cancer care, the interdisciplinary approach to care at the Pancreatic Cancer Center of Excellence and the difficulties of making a diagnosis.
“We’re still coming up with the best ways to try to screen for and detect this disease,” Dr. Hingorani said. “A lot of the issues go back to, again, the anatomy — where the pancreas is located.”
He also discussed the importance of hope.
“Hope is critical to healing in almost any disease that we diagnose and treat,” Dr. Hingorani said. “And having that very special fight by the patients and of course their loved ones, their family, their church, all of those people, it really is a team effort to get them engaged and to get them through that.”
The first half of Dr. Gold’s discussion with Dr. Hingorani is available to stream, as well.
“Health Care Heart to Heart” posts new podcasts every other week, as Dr. Gold speaks to national, regional and local health care leaders on issues of importance. On each new episode, Dr. Gold and his guests will share information, explore health care challenges and opportunities and leave listeners thinking about how they, too, can make a difference.
