Marian Newton, PhD, a former UNMC College of Nursing faculty member, was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing on Oct. 7.
Courtney Loecker will present a poster, “Disease Activity Is Associated with Frailty in Veterans with Rheumatoid Arthritis,” at the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Convergence 2023, Nov. 10-15 in San Diego. Myra Schmaderer, PhD, and Lani Zimmerman, PhD, were co-authors on the poster.
Andy Lim, PhD candidate, will present “A Grounded Theory Study to Elucidate the Social Psychological Processes of Human Papillomavirus Prevention and Detection in Sexual and Gender Diverse Men” at the Science of Cancer Health Equity in Sexual and Gender Minority Communities in New York City in December.
Tiffany Moore, PhD, was inducted into the inaugural class of The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses Fellows (AWHONN) at the AWHONN Conference
Marcia Shade, PhD, received the Excellence in Pain Management in Older Adults Award and the American Society for Pain Management in Nursing (ASPMN) Research Award, at the ASPMN conference in Minneapolis last week. She was also elected to the ASPMN Nominations Committee. The research award comes with a $5,000 grant to fund her study, Machine Learning for Conversational Pain Assessment Technology in Older Adults
Bailey Hendricks, PhD, was awarded the American Association for Cancer Education (AACE) Research, Advocacy, and Direct Service (READS) Grant. The grant will help Dr. Hendricks and her team develop ANCHOR, a psychoeducational intervention for caregiving youth in oncology, by eliciting stakeholder input and piloting the intervention, in preparation for her K (Career Development) grant, which will be submitted to the NIH/NCI.
Beth Beam, PhD, received funding for a University of Nebraska Collaboration Initiative grant application, “Prototyping of a ruggedized powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) for healthcare use in austere conditions.” The project is funded for a two-year total of $97,755.
Kati Bravo, PhD, and her team received funding of $150,000 for a University of Nebraska Collaboration Initiative grant application, titled “Nebraska Healthcare by Design.”
Kelly Betts, EdD, was awarded the UNMC Silver U for the month of August 2023.
Jennie Kolterman, was awarded the UNMC Silver U for the month of October 2023.
Sue Barnason, PhD, and her team of collaborators received funding for their Nebraska Collaboration Initiative grant application, “Reducing Disease Burden after Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (REBOUND),” for a two-year total of $121,121.50.
Windy Alonso, PhD, was selected as a Fellow of the American Heart Association. The fellowship recognizes and awards premium professional members for excellence, innovative and sustained contributions in the areas of scholarship, practice and/or education and volunteer service within the AHA/ASA.
Mariya Kovaleva, PhD, had a chapter published in “Women’s Health in Primary Care: An Integrated Approach” and presented two oral presentations at the GAPNA annual conference in New Orleans in early October. Dr. Kovaleva also was selected to receive the Nancy Bergstrom Early Career Investigator Award, which provides $1,000 in funding for research-related expenses.
Tyler Szymanski, successfully defended his dissertation for his Doctor of Education in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University. His dissertation was titled “A Phenomenological Exploration of Nursing Leadership Through the Lived Experiences of Primary Care Nurse Fellows.”
