Sidewalks near ice rink to be temporarily blocked

On Monday, Sept. 11, some sidewalks around the UNMC ice rink will be blocked off temporarily in order for facilities workers to bore plumbing lines under the sidewalk to the ice rink. 

Barricades and signage will be in place, and the work should take a day to complete.

Diabetes symposium is set for Oct. 13

The 2023 Diabetes Update symposium will be held Oct. 13, providing an update on diabetes management emphasizing glucose management and chronic kidney disease.

Other topics will include medication updates, inpatient diabetes guidelines, cultural nutrition for diabetes patients and a technology discussion on using continuous glucose monitors. 

It will be held at the Truhlsen Campus Events Center on the Omaha campus from 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A livestream will be available via Zoom.

Continuing education credits are available. The accredited continuing education activity is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians and others who care for diabetes patients.

This symposium is sponsored by the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism; Nebraska Medicine — Diabetes Center, and Employee Learning & Development; through the resources of the UNMC Center for Continuing Education.

The symposium director is Clifton Davis, MD, assistant professor in the UNMC Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism.
