Out of concern that grand rounds presentations “are not so grand anymore,” Afsaneh Shirani, MD, an assistant professor of neurology in the UNMC Department of Neurological Sciences, will offer a grand rounds Thursday, Aug. 31, on elevating the practice.
Dr. Shirani’s presentation, “Unleashing Potential: Enhancing Grand Rounds for Impact,” will be held via Zoom from noon to 1 p.m. Central Time. See the event listing to access the Zoom link.
Dr. Shirani said that for nearly a century, grand rounds exemplified a master class in the art and science of medicine through effective practice of bedside teaching. However, she said, the format of grand rounds over the past several decades has evolved into a didactic, lecture-based form.
In her presentation, Dr. Shirani will delve into the history and evolution of grand rounds. She will pinpoint existing issues within the current design while suggesting strategies aimed at making grand rounds more engaging, impactful and enjoyable.
