Events planned to promote wellness in nursing

The Nebraska Collaborative Investment in Nurses will offer several training courses in the coming weeks to promote wellness in the nursing profession.

The collaborative was formed to deliver wellness interventions and resources to address and reduce burnout and behavioral health conditions in nursing students, RNs and APRNs, with a focus on rural and medically underserved areas.

It is a partnership of the UNMC College of Nursing, UNMC College of Public Health, Nebraska Center for Nursing, Nebraska Board of Nursing, Nebraska Hospital Association and HRSA.

The following opportunities are available:

  • Sept. 15 in Kearney, Nebraska: Speaker Kay Glidden will discuss “Compassion Fatigue: Identifying Causes, Recognizing Signs, and Building Strategies to Improve Communication & Interaction with Patients & Co-Workers.” All medical professionals are welcome for the in-person event.

  • September-November 2023 Zoom Program: “Psychological First Aid (PFA) and WHOLE: Wellness, How One Lives Effectively Program.” Faculty and staff are welcome to sign up, and this program is open to all medical professionals.

  • Oct. 13 in-person event on the Omaha Campus or Oct. 27 via Zoom only: “Mental Health First Aid,” facilitated by UNMC’s Counseling and Psychological Service Director Jeff Knapp and Dani Haas. All faculty and staff are welcome.
