Beginning Aug. 24, the UNMC Ice Rink will be closed off until Nov. 30 for demolition and replacement of piping and concrete.
Work in the area will affect adjacent sidewalks and green spaces, so please be aware of alternate routes. Phase one of the project includes concrete replacement work and associated piping both west and south of the ice rink; phase two includes concrete replacement work and associated piping north of the ice rink.
Fencing around the ice rink will go up this week and remain in place for the duration of the project. Additional fencing will be erected, as needed, for phase one and two of the project.
Blake Weseley, project manager with Facilities Management and Planning, said some sidewalk and minor landscaping improvements also will be done around the perimeter of the area. Discussions regarding a possible canopy over the ice rink continue.
