As the new school year begins, come celebrate UNMC’s community with classmates and coworkers at the #WeAreUNMC BBQ on Aug. 23.
Faculty, staff and students are all welcome to attend the all-campus BBQ from 3:30-6 p.m. at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza. Enjoy free food (while supplies last), giveaways (while supplies last), music and yard games. All are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
This year’s event will include a Halal meal option for the first time in collaboration with the Muslim Student Association. The meal will include marinated chicken rolled in a wrap with pickles, El Basha garlic dressing and rice.
Volunteers still are needed to assist with the event. There are openings for event set-up and cleanup, giveaway tables and drink stations. Volunteers are needed for various hours between 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. To volunteer for one of these activities, click here.
Each year, the UNMC Office of Sustainability aims to make this event zero waste, which means that 90% of the waste created at the event is not sent to the landfill. This year, the office is striving to beat last year’s diversion rate of 65%. To volunteer with the office of sustainability, click here.
This event is hosted by the UNMC Student Senate and the Student Life Inclusion and Diversity Office, sponsored in part by Metro Credit Union, GreenSlate Management and Bergman Incentives, in collaboration with the UNMC Center for Healthy Living, the UNMC Office of Community Engagement, the UNMC Department of Strategic Communications, Sodexo, the sustainability office and the UNMC Bookstore.
In case of poor weather, the BBQ will be moved to Aug. 30
