A portion of Emile Street will be closed to motorists and pedestrians this weekend (Aug. 12-13) as, weather permitting, a construction crane will be placed to hoist materials atop the Lied Transplant Center for a planned roof installation.
During this time, all lanes of Emile Street will be closed just west of 42nd Street to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Eastbound Emile Street traffic will be notified of the closure with static signage at Saddle Creek Road and South 45th Street. Motorists will continue to have access to the Lot 50 parking garage, Durham Outpatient Center circle drive and RV parking lot from Saddle Creek Road.
Emile Street is expected to fully reopen prior to Monday, Aug. 14. Facilities anticipates additional temporary street closures as the roofing project continues through the fall. Closures will be planned over weekends, whenever possible.
Pedestrian detours will remain in place until sidewalks are no longer impacted by the crane.
