Dr. Windle appointed to medical informatics task force

John Windle, MD, the founding director of the Center for Intelligent Health Care at UNMC, has been selected to serve on the American Medical Informatics Association’s 25×5 Task Force that is examining how to reduce U.S. health professionals’ documentation burden.

For 25 years, Dr. Windle has focused his efforts and research into digital technology for health care clinicians. He has received funding from the National Science Foundation, National Institute for Standards and Technology, the National Library of Medicine and the Agency for Health Care Quality and Research. Dr. Windle, who served as chief of the UNMC Division of Cardiovascular Medicine for 16 years, lists research interests in optimizing electronic health records and developing artificial intelligence solutions to health care records.

The task force’s mission is to reduce documentation to 25% of its current state within five years through partnerships and advocacy with health systems, professional societies and public/private sector organizations.

UNMC International Student Association co-sponsors India Day celebraton

UNMC’s International Student Association is co-sponsoring India Day Celebrations 2023, a community event that will be held Aug. 12 from 1-8 p.m. at the Tri-Faith Center, 1336 Faith Plaza in Omaha.

Admission is free for the event, held in collaboration with Telugu Samiti of Nebraska, Omaha Loves Bollywood, Indian Bistro, Eventify, Eclipse Entertainment, the Tri-Faith Initiative and Worldwide Food Truck Tour.

Pratima Raut, president of the International Student Association and a PhD candidate in biochemistry and molecular biology, said the event will be perfect for anyone who loves Indian culture or is simply curious about experiencing something new. She said it will be a mesmerizing showcase of vibrant music, captivating traditional dances, mouthwatering food, intricate henna art and shopping featuring vendors from Indian backgrounds.

Although admission is free, guests can purchase food and goods from the vendors.

Mural artist call extended

The UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Community Wellness Collaborative at the Highlander Community is seeking an artist to create a mural that pays homage to North Omaha.

Individual or collaborative muralists are eligible to apply, and applicants with a meaningful relationship to North Omaha and its history will be highly considered. The deadline to apply has been extended through Aug. 7.

Elevator testing scheduled

Elevator testing will be taking place in Clarkson Tower and Kiewit Tower next week.

  • Clarkson Tower – Wednesday, Aug. 9, from 4 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.
  • Kiewit Tower – Thursday, Aug. 10, from 4 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.
