The Summer Undergraduate Research Program will hold its annual poster symposium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 10 at UNMC’s Truhlsen Events Center. The med center community is invited to meet the SURP students and view their poster presentations.
This event is the culmination of a 10-week, full-time research program for 110 undergraduates participating in the program. SURP is a collaboration between UNMC departments, institutes, colleges and graduate specialty areas and is designed to allow undergraduate students to become members of research teams and discover firsthand the broad spectrum of research activities occurring at UNMC.
“SURP is a fantastic way for undergraduate students to learn about the wide range of research careers that an education at UNMC can provide,” said Misty Pocwierz-Gaines, the cancer research training and education program manager for the Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases. “SURP gives students a chance to experience the life of a graduate student while building their scientific resume and learning more about the many educational paths that students take to careers in research.”
In addition to being mentored by faculty, SURP students attend weekly seminars provided by UNMC researchers to enhance their knowledge about research careers and the variety of research at UNMC. The laboratory experiences obtained by SURP students enhance their competitiveness for later admission to graduate programs at UNMC.
Fantastic opportunity and a wide range of research experiences.
